Highlights of my hike from the beautiful Swiss town of Stein SG to the more beautiful Alps views at the town of Amden. I visit an Alp Restuarant, ride a chairlift and experience a wonderful Swiss hike with breathtaking views of the Glarner Alps.

Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 5, #1 – Stein SG to Amden Stein is a beautiful Swiss village that makes it hard to leave when facing a tough 2,300ft (700m) ascent to start the hike. Making matters worse for me was a week of travel sickness where I lost 10 pounds, I did not know if I was physically fit to finish.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 5, #2 – Stein SG to Amden. After 6-7km, the Vorderen Höhe peak finally appears. There is a restaurant here and it’s reasonably crowded with both hikers and bikers. Watch out for the bikers, when they begin going downhill, they don’t really slow down. This pass signifies a regional geographic transition and the wind coming up from the southside can be pretty strong.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 5, #3 – Stein SG to Amden. I’m in the Alps and hiking over beautiful pastures. Enjoy food and drink in the enchanting alpine panorama on the Furggelen-Alp.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 5, #5 – Stein SG to Amden. Halfway between Voder Hohl (front heights) and Hinter Hohl (back heights), roughly at the 75km mark, is an Alpine Farming House on Mt. Furggelen; Alpwirtschaft Furggelen (Alp Farm Furggelen) – https://www.alpwirtschaft-furggelen.ch In this video, I sit down at Alpwirtschaft Furggelen (Alp Farm Furggelen), an Alp Restaurant with a great view. I selected and enjoyed the fresh cheese (Alpkäse) and meat platter. As their website says, “Enjoy food and drink in the enchanting alpine panorama on the Furggelen-Alp. Nature and animals are our main focus. That’s why we only serve natural dishes and ingredients. Meat and dairy products are pure and natural. On the alp we produce alp cheese, Mutschli, cream cheese, curd cheese, yogurt, cream, anchor, Ziger and sour cream and everything we can think of and process them in our dishes, which we are happy to prepare for you.”
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 5, #6 – Stein SG to Amden. Its been a great hike and I can’t resist telling some stories about the people I’ve encountered on trail in Switzerland.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 5, #7 – Stein SG to Amden. Stage 5 ends in Amden where there is a bit of a ski resort in the winter. In the summer, the chairlift is running. I sit back and relax while looking at the Glarner Alps behind the Walensee (Lake Walen).
