Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 25, #1 – Lausanne to Morges. Dating back 2,000 years, the Romans used Lausanne as a trading post. I start hiking at the Lausanne Lakefront area known as d’Ouchy. As has been the case for millennia, a boat was leaving the dock as I walked. Lausanne is another location where the Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail meets up with the Route of St. James, National Route 4, due to the Cathedral of Lausanne.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 25, #2 – Lausanne to Morges. Lausanne is one of the most famous cities in Switzerland and is highlighted by its central location on Lake Geneva, halfway between Geneva and Montreux. Across the lake are the French Alps and the town of Évian-Les-Bains, which is the town where Évian Water comes from. Dating back to the 1700s, water from the Évian area has been considered ‘good for your health.’ Today, the Évian Water facility is France’s largest food manufacturing plant. If you’ve ever wondered where Évian water comes from, this is the place, the mountains over Lake Geneva.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 25, #3 – Lausanne to Morges. I found the lakefront hike to be very comparable to my hikes around Lake Geneva Wisconsin. There is more similarity than just the namesake. Gorgeous houses with manicured landscapes, piers, and lakeside path. The smells are similar as well. If you can’t make it to Lake Geneva Switzerland, know that the 23-mile hike around Lake Geneva Wisconsin can be a reasonable simile. You won’t need to exchange currency or learn French.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 25, #4 – Lausanne to Morges. Parc du Débarcadère is the park that I’m walking through in this video. The protestant church, Ecublens of Saint Sulpice, is the building I talk about at the end of the video.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 25, #5 – Lausanne to Morges. This is such a great hike. The fresh air, birds, sun, and breathtaking Lake Geneva views build up on your psyche. This was an emotional release and relaxation stage.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 25, #6 – Lausanne to Morges. The town of Morges, the natural termination of this stage, dates back 5,000 years to the Neolithic period. Imagine how much human history has occurred within walking distance of this town. The Castle of Morge was built in the late 1200s and the city has grown since.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 25, #7 – Lausanne to Morges. The main street of Old Town is a pedestrian walk and worth a stop for a meal or to listen to a street band.
