Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 24, #1 – Vevey to Lausanne. Vevey boasts a famous history as the founding place of Milk Chocolate and the retirement home for Charlie Chaplin. I’m walking through parts of oldtown that are much older than chocolate or Chaplin.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 24, #2 – Vevey to Lausanne. In 1875, Daniel Peter and Henri Nestlè invented milk chocolate in Vevey. Nestlè’s global headquarters is located on the lakefront and tours are encouraged. After all, how often does one visit the birthplace of milk chocolate? Milk being the primary word, Swiss milk production and the products which use that milk are why we are on the Swiss Panoramic Trail.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 24, #3 – Vevey to Lausanne. Lake Geneva boasts some of the most prolific vine production in the country. If the quality of wine is based on its view, this would be the best wine in the world.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 24, #4 – Vevey to Lausanne. The town of Saint Saphorin is cited back to 1138, this area has been inhabited for thousands of years. In 563, a landslide on the Eastern side of Lake Geneva caused a tsunami that wiped out the towns along this coast. The Vineyard Terraces, especially those of Lavaux, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Also, I see the Cave Castle of Glérolles before entering the town of Rivaz.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 24, #5 – Vevey to Lausanne. I hang out on the Cully, Lake Geneva shoreline. I Look at the French Alps and muse about the historical fishermen. Then I walk through the town of Cully.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 24, #6 – Vevey to Lausanne. I visit the typical small towns of Rivaz, Epesses, and Cully. These towns date back well over 1000 years and Roman coins and remnants of a Roman road have been found. Epesses, Cully, and most of the villages along the way were built as wine grower homes with narrow streets.
Swiss Alpine Panorama Trail, Segment 24, #7 – Vevey to Lausanne. I hike into Lausanne along the Lake Geneva shoreline. Lausanne is centrally located on Lake Geneva, halfway between Geneva and Montreux. I’m at the Olympic Museum and Park. Lausanne is the world headquarters of the Olympics.
