Beautiful Segment 5 of the Colorado Trail

I start day 5 with some altitude effects and I end day 5 with a mountain rainstorm. It was all worth it for my final hike out to Kenosha Pass on Day 6.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Segment Start at Creek (360° VR Video)

I camped at 11,000ft last night and the altitude has its effect on me in the morning. I may have filtered my water backward, take a look at the filter and see if you can determine what I did.

Most of our videos are filmed in a full 360° arc, this means you should be able to use your device to move the video around and up and down. If you are having issues or if you are watching with VR goggles, click over and watch our SwissCheeseTrails playlist directly on YouTube.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Lost Creek Wilderness Area again (360° VR Video)

The CT reenters the Lost Creek Wilderness Area with a burst of Aspens. In this video, I talk about the smells of the area. There are also some big views so download the 4K version and use your 360° controls to look around.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Water filter issues and low energy (360° VR Video)

I’d love to hear comments about filtering water the wrong way, how bad is it, how to recover, funny stories, etc. Similarly, I’d like to hear how people work through their moments of low energy on a through-hike.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Rain Shelter Episode (360° VR Video)

I spent a lot of mental energy before the hike thinking about how to make a temporary rain shelter. My experience with Colorado mountain rain is that it downpours. These downpours are local and short but powerful, rendering rain gear and pack covers worthless. So, in this episode, I practice making a shelter. Tell me about your experiences with heavy rains on the CT.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Alpine Flowers (360° VR Video)

The Alpine flowers along the CT are incredible. These front sections of the CT are below the tree line and perfect for Colorado Blue Columbine, Indian Paintbrush, Bluebell, and Fireweed. Find out more about Colorado flowers: https://www.coloradoinfo.com/blog/gui…

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Rain at Johnson’s Gulch (360° VR Video)

Mountain storms are scary to me. I’m still below the tree line but these clouds are energetic. This video shows several cloud systems while I try to figure out where to put my tent. Enjoy the colors and use the 360° controls to look up and around at the storm systems.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – After the storm on Day 6 (360° VR Video)

The trials and tribulations of mountain storms. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy my discussion about the storms last night. If not, it’s still a beautiful day in Colorado for a 360° video.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Panoramic Views on the CT (360° VR Video)

Section 5 gets exciting with the mountain vistas. South Park, snow cap mountains, and dramatic clouds highlight this video. When you hike the CT, you need to spend a few days getting up to altitude. Section 5 feels like you are really hiking toward the rooftop of the world. I could hike this section over and over again, season after season.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Hike Summary and Aspen Groves (360° VR Video)

I’m coming to the end of my hike and I’m growing excited with each step. It’s been such a great hike and I talk about my feelings while walking through the Aspens. This is my summary video. If you are thinking about a through-hike and/or hiking the CT, this is the video where I discuss what I’ve learned.

Colorado Trail, Section 5 – Aspen Groves near Kenosha Pass (360° VR Video)

This video is for your 360° viewing pleasure. Put on your goggles, download the 4K version and enjoy a hike through the Aspens at 10,000 ft.

Colorado Trail – Kenosha Pass (Daily 360° VR Video)

The day before my solo-hike begins, I travel to Kenosha Pass to park my car. My trail host, Rick, accompanies me on the journey and we take an extended look at the Kenosha Pass Trailhead and Campgrounds. All these videos are 360° and available in 4K. Please use the 360° controls on the upper left of your screen and change your settings to request the 4k version – it makes a big difference for details like flowers.

Kenosha Pass has a 10,000 ft elevation, a large parking area, reservation campgrounds, and a pit toilet. The Aspen Tree viewing from this location is excellent and in autumn it’s very busy. Walking east on the Colorado Trail (1776) for a mile+ from Kenosha Pass will get you deep into Aspen Groves and Alpine flowers.
