Segment 3 of the Colorado Trail begins at the Little Scraggy Trailhead and ends uphill from the Rolling Creek Trailhead.

Colorado Trail, Section 3 – Common Mullein or “Cowboy Toilet Paper” (360° VR Video)

Ha, so this plant I liked so much while hiking is actually a non-native species called Common Mullein aka “Cowboy Toilet Paper” and “Indian Rag Weed” among other names. Oh well, it seems native due to its ability to grow in direct sunlight, low moisture, and disturbed soil. Its been in North America since the early 1700s and is native to Europe and Asia.

Colorado Trail, Section 3 – Spooky Old Wood Teepees (360° VR Video)

I assume this is a forest management technique to remove fuel from possible forest fires, but it looks spooky and many dead logs are still scattered on the ground. If anyone can help explain what is happening here, please comment below.

Colorado Trail, Section 3 – Tramway Creek, Campsite and Hiking Songs (360° VR Video)

At mile 5.3 on section 3, Tramway Creek is a great place to take a break. There are campsites here as well. As a foodie, I enjoy tasting the different water sources and this stream has good tasting water. Hiking is a great way to clear your head. Colorado Trail, Section 3 – Buffalo Creek near Trailhead (360° VR Video)

Buffalo Creek is a big water source near a trailhead and campgrounds. The good news is that the water is running and the rest area is comfortable. The bad news is that this trailhead is very busy. So busy that someone walked away with my satellite messenger. I chased them down and they did not have il-intent, but they did walk away with my electronics. I’m a bit cranky in this video so be warned ; )

Section 3 is about making miles. I’ve come over the first few peaks and now I need to just hike the miles required to get from point A to point B; there are great things ahead. So, stay tuned and subscribe because Section 4 gets us up to altitude and through the foothills, while Section 5 takes gives incredible views of South Park.
